Kimreeaa Gallery presents works by Hwang Do You as part of Frieze House Seoul Summer Sparks 1. The presentation brings together two series, The Thirty-three Flower Blossoms and East of Eden. While The Thirty-three Flower Blossoms evokes landscapes emptied of narrative through rhythmic color and brushwork, East of Eden introduces animal forms suggesting survival, tension, and coexistence. Borrowing its title from the well-known narrative, the series focuses on the symbolic atmosphere within the canvas.
Through restrained brushwork, flat planes of color, and repetitive strokes, Hwang reveals the temporal process of painting itself. Intersecting Eastern brush sensibilities with Western chromatic language, he focuses on sensory structures through color, line, and texture. Together, the two series create pictorial spaces where landscape and presence, order and instinct, remain in balance.
