Kim Younghyun: Seonjam

OverviewKimreeaa Gallery is pleased to present Kim Younghyun’s solo exhibition,《Seonjam》, from July 31 to August 16, 2025. The title refers to a state of light sleep—one that lingers just beneath full consciousness, or the elusive space between dreams and waking. This exhibition showcases new works that explore the intersection of reality and illusion, surface and material, beauty and fragility. Kim renders imaginary worlds with a sense of quiet clarity, as if recalling something once seen. Her work persistently navigates the blurred boundary between perception and fiction. Using finely woven cotton soaked with shell powder, she constructs soft, delicate surfaces that reveal both vulnerability and tension. Through gestures such as unthreading or detaching the fabric from its frame, she exposes the instability of the painting’s physical support and expands the language of the medium. By resisting complete narratives, her compositions leave space for rupture and stillness—moments in which illusion wavers and sensation lingers. Through this exhibition, we invite viewers to encounter familiar emotions from unfamiliar angles and to share in the quiet resonance that emerges in between.
