Lee Jieun: Run Away

Kimreeaa Gallery is pleased to present Lee Jieun solo exhibition of 2021, <Run Away>, from November 20 to December 18.

The starting point for the works in <Run Away> came from postcards that the artist’s grandparents collected during their travels and passed on to her. In these times, Lee often feels the irresistible urge to escape—sometimes dozens of times in a single day. Determined to close out 2021 with an exhibition truly centered on travel, she created this body of work.

For Lee, what she paints always comes from the heart, emerging from the deepest parts of her mind. The canvases capture the powerful desire to visit unfamiliar islands or immerse oneself in nature, the raw sensations experienced in new places, and the awe inspired by encountering landscapes for the first time. She depicts the places, countries, and accommodations she longs to visit, imagining journeys with cherished companions and the thrill of embarking on adventures in unknown worlds.

We invite viewers to slowly explore Lee’s imagined worlds, offering a brief journey into memories or a chance to envision new adventures in the destinations they may one day reach.
