Hwang Do You: Alice in Wonderland
-
Overview
Kimreeaa Gallery presents Hwang Do You’s 8th solo exhibition, <Alice in Wonderland>, featuring 28 new paintings. The exhibition continues the artist’s decade-long exploration of Alice wandering through dreamlike and surreal landscapes, a subject that has evolved through years of experimentation with color, form, and brushwork.
Hwang’s works combine powerful, deliberate brushstrokes with luminous, magical colors, capturing both Alice and the abstract, ethereal environments she inhabits. By merging her earlier layered painting techniques with the more concise, expressive strokes of her Thirty-Three Flower Blossoms series, Hwang creates landscapes where Alice seems to roam freely. This approach invites viewers to immerse themselves in the scene, imagining her journey while experiencing the rich textures, layers, and moods of the painted world.
For Hwang, painting is itself an adventure. Each work opens a new imaginative space, guiding audiences through landscapes of wonder and mystery. The exhibition encourages viewers to engage with the paintings not only visually but emotionally, discovering the beauty, the surrealism, and the sense of exploration embedded within each composition.
