Kimreeaa Gallery will host the solo exhibition <Scenery of My Own> by artist Hong Mihee from October 20, 2023, to November 18, 2023. This exhibition offers an experience of looking at our everyday landscapes in a new and unfamiliar way, as well as exploring the concept of ‘personal landscapes’, where people see the same scene but from different perspectives.

The artist Hong Mihee’s “Low relief painting” begins by capturing moments of inspiration from the landscape in photographs and sketching them in a simplified form. The artist then creates designs on paper boards based on these sketches. One of the most noteworthy aspects of the artist’s creative process is the development of a unique classification system, using research-like techniques to mix colors and layer paper boards repeatedly. Thin paper boards serve as the paints, and the layers of the basic materials for paintings on wood panels provide depth and dimension to the images. Through this intricate process, geometric forms and color combinations emerge to create personal landscapes. The artist aims to deeply explore often overlooked landscapes that occasionally reveal exceptional beauty. Her concept of “depth” encompasses various meanings, including the depth of distance, thoughtfulness, and the weight of content, all of which contribute to a conversation about encountering a new world and the depth of the moment. Additionally, the artist delves into the meaning of art through the traces and presence that arise in this process and discusses the fundamental relationship between life and art.

This exhibition presents landscapes that are created with the most basic elements of form, lines, and colors, and they transform into different landscapes based on various conditions, such as the space in which the artwork exists, the psychological aspects of colors, and the angles from which viewers observe them. We hope that you will take the opportunity to enjoy Hong Mihee’s solo exhibition, <Scenery of My Own>, and discover your very own personal landscapes.
