Small Paintings - My Bijou! 2026
-
Overview
Kimreeaa Gallery has marked the beginning of each year with the group exhibition Small Paintings – My Bijou!, presenting the possibilities of small-scale works alongside the diverse perspectives of contemporary artists. Now in its third edition, the exhibition builds upon this ongoing trajectory while unfolding a new texture of small works shaped by a more experimental and liberated sensibility.
For artists, working on a small surface is not simply a matter of scale. It requires careful decisions about what to include and what to leave out within a limited space. This process often leads to new ways of composing images, as well as fresh explorations of color, texture, and material that may not appear in larger works. The experimental spirit of Small Paintings – My Bijou! grows from this focused way of working.
The twenty participating artists present small works across painting, sculpture, and objects, each reflecting their own distinct visual language. Despite their size, the works hold a strong presence. As viewers move closer, details of material, structure, and the artist’s touch become more apparent.
Small works also invite a more intimate viewing experience. They encourage the viewer’s gaze to slow down and remain with each piece, allowing personal memories and emotions to surface. Rather than overwhelming the space, these works create quiet moments of close looking and reflection.
Building on the conversations of the previous editions, Small Paintings – My Bijou! brings together new approaches shaped by the artists’ individual choices and experiments. Within this gathering of intimate works, visitors are invited to discover a “small jewel” that resonates with their own sensibility.
