Overview
Yi Seula documents the relationship between people and forms within the city through her paintings. Her works combine personal reflections, fleeting encounters, and glimpses of urban life to construct spaces that feel both familiar and subtly unfamiliar—cities that seem more “urban” than reality itself. Through these compositions, she explores the structures, invisible rules, and relationships that shape our urban environment, tracing how humans, forms, and memories are interconnected.
Her practice begins with walks through the city, observing the dense patterns of lines, planes, and rectangular spaces. She is fascinated by how individuals navigate this environment, from mundane routines to unexpected moments, and how these interactions animate the city like an ecosystem. By translating these observations onto canvas, Yi Seula transforms everyday sights, paths, and buildings into layered landscapes that capture the rhythm, light, and quiet sounds of urban life.
